Hailsham Community College - New Teaching Building

HCCAT complete high res 2 Cropped

With the projected increase in pupil numbers within Hailsham as a result of the expansion of residential developments, East Sussex County Council tendered for a Team for the Design and Construction of new teaching facilities.

Morgan Sindall were appointed as the main contractor and Miller Bourne as the project architects. Miller Bourne undertook an analysis of all the existing accommodation and designs developed to provide the necessary new facilities.

The final proposals required the demolition of half of an existing dilapidated Craft block to create a site for a new three storey teaching block with accommodated IT classrooms, seven Art and Graphics Classrooms, four Science Labs, six General teaching Classrooms and the relocation of the SEN facility.

The building was formed using the Streif system, a prefabricated timber panel system that we had used very successfully to construct the Hailsham Primary School.

Many of the existing school buildings were also reconfigured and refurbished to provide modern facilities and externally a new all-weather pitch was formed, a car park, daily mile path and improvements to the school entrance.
