Hurstpierpoint College Swimming Pool & Sports Facility

Hurstpierpoint College Swimming Pool Sports Facility Phase 2 Tree

Miller Bourne has designed a new Swimming Pool & Sports Complex for Hurstpierpoint College with whom they have enjoyed a close working relationship since undertaking a masterplan of the site in 2006.

Since that time several key buildings have been completed.

In 2017, we started work on the design for a new sports complex at the school that will replace and improve and expand upon the existing facilities.

To permit continued use of the existing facilities and minimise disruption of the school through the construction period, the new facility has been designed to be constructed in two Phases.

The first is for construction a new 25-metre competition swimming pool on the site of the old redundant theatre building which had been replaced. This is to allow the existing pool to remain operational through the construction of the replacement pool.

The second phase is the construction of a new sports facility, to include an eight-badminton court sports hall, with a larger reception area and stores as well as gym, training and teaching facilities on the first floor, all linked into the new swimming pool.

The front of the building formed with the entrance, teaching facilities and gym has been designed to create an active façade that will form the final element enclosing a landscaped quad.

  • “We’ve worked with Miller Bourne consistently since 2005. As a practice, they’ve got clout and strong relationships with the independent schools sector and they always deliver an excellent service. They created our college masterplan, a blueprint we’re still working to today for our expansion. Their strength, for us, is in their understanding of our 150-acre campus, which presents challenges with its listed buildings and setting. They approach it sympathetically, knowing the fabric but at the same time aren't staid and traditional so we don't lose any innovative flair. They’re especially good at putting in creative features that help tie buildings to the heart of the school, but that also achieve modernity and sustainability. They’ve designed and built many of our new building projects, including boarding houses, library, science block, sixth-form centre, and currently a new sports centre and swimming pool. We have a very strong relationship: Miller Bourne is a very capable team.”
