Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre - Brighton Aldridge Community Academy

Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre 1

The Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre at BACA’s campus in Falmer is the home of the Aldridge Cricket Academy.

Construction of the centre began in September 2015 and the centre was opened by former England Captain Charlotte Edwards in June 2016

The Cricket Centre provides dedicated training and playing facilities, enabling students to develop their cricketing talent. It promotes and helps maintain fitness and has physiotherapy space to aid recovery.

The new indoor cricket school was built to ECB specifications to serve both Academy students, and the wider community. The ground floor includes 3 bays of indoor cricket nets, with associated changing rooms and facilities, whilst on the first floor, there are communal function spaces, a gym and offices.

The building structure comprises a steel portal framed solution, with partial first-floor steel framing and a lightweight roof. To enable the run-up area to be unrestricted by columns, long span castellated beams were used to span the area, with the beams sized to restrict dynamic effects arising from the first-floor gym and exercise area. To the rear of the building, a large communal balcony terrace was added, ensuring unrestricted views across the adjoining cricket pitch.

The end result has created a landmark building at the entrance to the Academy, built to a tight budget, delivered to programme, and meeting the needs of cricketers now, and into the future.
