Hawthorns School

Hawthorns School Masterplan Phasae 2 View 1

Due to a growing need to develop the facilities at The Hawthorns School, Miller Bourne was appointed to create a development plan for the school.

The Hawthorns is an independent prep school for girls and boys in Bletchingley, Surrey.

A comprehensive review was undertaken of the existing buildings and external spaces, their location, relationship, function and condition, as well as the school’s needs and future goals.

Following extensive dialogue with the school’s user groups to develop and refine proposals, Miller Bourne created a final phased development plan to provide a long-term vision for the school.

Our proposals looked to make efficient use of potential sites and to work within the existing pattern and aesthetic of the school grounds to allow for the creation of exciting buildings but at the same time maintain the dominance of the original Grade II* Listed Jacobean Manor House.

The school is located in the Borough of Landridge and is located close to the intersection between the M25 and M23. The site is historically and environmentally significant with planning challenges.

Finally, but importantly, our proposals were guided by our masterplanning principles: that they should be achievable, sustainable, practical and affordable.
