Gownboys is the oldest of the Charterhouse School boarding houses and occupies a central position in Founder’s Court.
Phased over two years Miller Bourne undertook the refurbishment, which incorporated a new staff flat, conversion of the washrooms into several smaller, private, shower rooms, a new pupil buttery.
The entrance to Gownboys is made from a cloister and as part of the refurbishment the C20 screens that enclosed the entrance were replaced with a new timber screen that enhanced the gothic arches that were predominant in the cloister. Alongside interior designer Nicola Rees the former house dining room was refurbished into new student common rooms.
Gownboys is one of 12 boarding houses that Miller Bourne have now refurbished or are currently working on at Charterhouse School.
