PENNTHORPE SCHOOL
Miller Bourne was commissioned to design a new Pre Prep building and Kindergarten to replace temporary classroom accommodation and to make use of a steeply sloping area of land adjoining mature woodland which had been identified for this purpose. The building has two storeys with the main entrance at the upper level and it was completed in August 2009 ready for the 2009/2010 academic year.
At the rear, the classrooms have full width glazed sliding/folding doors giving access directly to areas of external teaching space. All main rooms take advantage of a view into the woodland where abundant wildlife add substantially to the learning environment.
The building makes use of high standards of thermal efficiency, displacement ventilation and rainwater harvesting to maximise sustainability and minimise running costs.
