The brief from Aldro School was to design a new sports hall and swimming pool to replace an existing dilapidated covered games area and outdoor pool.
The site for the building was on the edge of the school grounds and within the village conservation area.
This sensitive site also marked the transition from the village into the rural landscape and could be seen from a number of local rights of way. As a result the development of the design required a great deal of consultation with the local planning authority and the village to gain an acceptable balance between building size and visual impact.
Following the tender process only the sports hall was constructed with Miller Bourne Architects being novated across to the successful contractor to undertake the construction design packages.
